Privacy and Policy

Confidentiality & Privacy Policy:

The law protects the relationship between a patient and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.

Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a patient is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.

  • If a patient intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance of the scheduled session by voice, e-mail or text in order not to be charged in full for your missed appointment.  Therapy sessions are scheduled in advance and the time is reserved exclusively for you. You may cancel or reschedule an appointment at anytime if you give a minimum of 24 hours notice..  Missed appointments or cancellations cannot be charged to your insurance company.

Lateness
I will wait 15 minutes beyond the scheduled meeting time before the session is considered a no show, unless there is a message that you will be late. You will be charged for this time.

Termination of Therapy
I support all terminations, for whatever reasons.  However when you decide to leave I would like you to leave in a positive, healthful manner.  I ask that you give me advance notice.  Usually a couple of weeks is sufficient but some long-term patients let me know several months in advance.  When leaving is handled this way, it often turns out to be extremely productive for you.  Even if you are not able to provide notice in advance, I will do my best to help you leave well.
